Colombian Capital Markets


Since its beginnings the Colombian stock market has had several changes. Those changes have benefited the exchange of information, allowing the integration of Colombian companies into this market. With the creation of the stock exchanges of Bogotá, Medellín and Occidente, Colombian companies began to integrate benefiting national’s economy. However, this regional difference generated information problems which allowed opportunities of arbitrage.

For this reason, it was thought in the unification of the three exchanges by giving rise to Bolsa de Valores de Colombia. After the unification of the exchanges and the new challenges for the domestic market, a trading system was implemented. Principally, to facilitate the exchange of information and to allow a better interaction between transactions that are developed. In terms of global market and taking into account the economic situation, the Bolsa de Valores de Colombia is in the process of unification with the Lima Stock Exchange and the Santiago Stock Exchange, allowing an expansion of existing markets, for these three countries, and diversification in terms of associated risks.
